NLP is a results-oriented technology that presupposes every person has the ability to make the necessary changes to create the lives they desire. This presupposition asks us to accept responsibility for everything that happens in our lives. This is the idea of being at cause. The question often asked is “are you getting results, or do you have your reasons?”
Living at cause means we greet life each moment with decisive passion. We gratefully approach everything as an opportunity to grow and learn. When something unfavorable happens, we are willing to accept it for what it is. We ask ourselves, “what do I need to learn from this?” We accept and understand that we choose how we respond to situations, people, events, and challenges. We hold ourselves accountable for our actions, our emotions, our language, and the programs and patterns we run.
People who are at the effect live in what can be described as a victim mind-set. They blame others, the weather, the traffic, their personal history, their family, their bad moods, their lack of resources, for what they have or have not achieved. They may see themselves as perpetual victims of circumstances that are beyond their control. They feel powerless. They are unwilling to accept that they have choices. Rather than seek to creatively work through their obstacles, they remain stuck and in reaction.
For many of us, living at cause is something we must learn to do. Through NLP and other empowering technologies of the mind, we can begin to shift ourselves out of unresourceful patterns. We learn what it means to interact with life from a place of ecology. We learn to be at cause.
Thought is powerful. You are in charge of your mind, and therefore your results. This is one of the incredible resources provided through NLP training. When we accept that we have the power to direct our thoughts, we begin to creatively and resourcefully shape our actions, our strategies, and our states. Everything becomes feedback. We can choose to feed the resourcefulness within us to create the results we desire.
